Upholding the High Quality of Our Reproductive Tissue

As always, we strictly follow the guidance published by federal and state health care regulatory bodies. At the current time, neither the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have released any guidance advising against the retrieval or use of human reproductive tissue during the COVID-19 outbreak. There has been no evidence of the COVID-19 virus spreading via reproductive tissue. Out of an abundance of caution, however, we have enhanced our already-rigorous donor screening procedures by implementing the FDA’s suggested screening questions to ensure that no tissue is obtained from donors who have a COVID-19 diagnosis, who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, or who have had sustained close contact with anyone meeting those criteria. Donors who answer any of those screening questions affirmatively will be deferred for the applicable legally required time period of 28 days, whichever is longer. If any applicable regulatory body releases any relevant guidance, we will, of course, ensure we comply with those requirements as well.

For reproductive tissue already in our inventory, we continue to follow our strict internal processes regarding the safe storage of that tissue. We have 24/7 monitoring of all storage facilities via electronic temperature monitoring and liquid nitrogen level monitoring with audible alarms and backup alarm systems. Regardless of whether there are employees physically present in our storage facilities, we are always alerted to any unacceptable fluctuations in storage tank temperatures and when no one is on-site we always have designated employees in close proximity who can act on the alert immediately.

Ensuring the Health and Safety of Our Employees and Facilities

We do not currently have any symptomatic employees. If our employees become symptomatic or have sustained close contact with anyone who is symptomatic or has a COVID-19 diagnosis, we will require them to work from home for at least 14 days. In addition, we are implementing remote work options for all employees whose job functions do not require them to be on site.

As we monitor global developments, the quality and safety of our reproductive tissue is our highest priority. We are continually evaluating our procedures to ensure we maintain these high standards and will make any changes necessary to uphold those standards and comply with relevant regulations or guidance.
